Dilsey Davis

I enjoyed Ms Davis coming and relaying information about how she took a chance on what she loved instead of rolling with what her family felt that she should be doing. I love the fact that she is from the area in which I am from. It's inspiring. I am very interested in how she incorporates her passion for film and acting with education. That is what I want to do with my writing. When I start my magazine, I want to educate Black youth, males in particular. By way of media is the only way I see that happening effectively.

Trevy McDonald was another person who inspired me to carry on with my work. Her position as a professor, author and entreprenuer has pushed my thoughts of what I can do to the next level. I am going to use her contact and the other one that she gave me for mentoring purposes. I appreciate the people that have come to share their experiences with life in this particular industry. What Ms. McDonald is the outline of what I want to do with my writing.

The OIC is a great idea. I would like to start something similar to that on a smaller scale. More programs and such. The minister that was spoken about was an influence for me because of his tremendous work behind the scenes. Thats how I see myself, moving to the highest point but no one can see me.

There it is. All my post. I think. If not, I guess its too tough. I'll have to charge it to the game. Peace

all the shit that happened since the last post

Lost my password and account information, but never mind that. Here I go....

About two weeks ago, my man Kenneth Moton came to speak with the class on his experience getting into media. I found it quite affirming and assuring, that people can get a job straight out of college. However, his determination got him there, not good grades or anything pertaining to academia. It was his sincerity to the field and his commitment to strive for perfection. I liked that. I've evaluated some areas in which I've failed and realized where there is room for improvement.

After that, the man that came with his son that had been in the game for 20+ years came to speak. His name is on my tongue but...cant call it. I was listening to the majority of his presentation from on the other side of the door. He kept it real as far as alerting students on probability of getting into the most practical channel of media and on what level. He was humorous, which kept people into the dialogue. I liked that. That's necessary for people in our generation. Even though someone could be delivering information to help us, we will still make it to where they are supposed to do this or that. Thats just an observation of my generation.

Anything else?
Nah thats it.

Crunk-ass weekend (CIAA)

C-I-Double A, I said C-I Double A!!! I know I'm just droppin this on the blog but I had a crunk as shit weekend and I had to get all the information together for the paper, so I'm just now getting to this. Anyway, this weekend was full of work and play. I mean, I had to cover the game, make sure my photographers were in line and my reporters had all the information they needed so It was mad full. But I still got a chance to hang out. I was with some of my friends and we had a lot of good laughs the entire weekend. I'm not about to drop everything I did this weekend, but just know it was productive and I didn't want to come back to Durham.
Peace out

50 minutes in the Life Narissa Williams

I should not receive less credit because I could not log onto my weblog yesterday. I had to get a new password and everything. But I enjoyed ms williams presentation. She seemed very enthused about getting black people involved in journalism. I dig that. I appreciated her knowledge and how she built herself within the industry. I don't know too much else to write but all in all, the presentation was very beneficial and heartfelt.

Class

Mass media and society. Interesting. I have always watched the news but I only watch it to see how bad they lie, or let me say how well they euphemize the truth. Yeah, euphemize. The opportunity to report on how I feel about what is going on in the news gives me the chance to vent and people actually have to listen to me. U can rap with other folks on the yard and they'll give you the "I really don't give a f&%#" face.
Its always something to rap about when the news comes on. I seen some people get their brains blown away on the news the other day. I thought this sh-- was supposed to be edited. But on the real, the news is wack and the people that report it probably have a heavy conscience for posting a bunch of edited information to the people that it affects the most.
I'm out!
